An underground mining farm in Krasnoyarsk stole 5.7 million rubles worth of electricity

Clandestine mining continues to grow in Russia. Dagestan and the Irkutsk region are the leaders in terms of electricity theft.

The Russian authorities have repeatedly stated their intention to legalize mining in the country. Clauses to regulate the activities of miners are to be published in a new bill on the cryptosphere, which the Ministry of Finance is working on.

Energy and law enforcement authorities discovered another underground farm in a building under construction. The damage from its activities exceeds 5.7 million rubles.

The regional prosecutor’s office reported that in the Oktyabrsky district of the city, the developer of one apartment building rented a technical floor to a local company.

This company is engaged in cryptocurrency mining. It placed mining equipment in the rented premises and secretly connected it to the power grid.

The company was mining cryptocurrency in the second half of last year. Now the owners of this equipment could face up to five years in prison.
